Melanie Calhoun, LPC, NCC, NBCCF Minority Fellow
Melanie Calhoun, LPC, is the founder of Stone & Flower Counseling who provides culturally responsive, trauma-informed care grounded in womanist and decolonial values. Her work centers the lived experiences, wisdom, and resilience of black women and communities, while actively challenging the colonial and oppressive frameworks often embedded in traditional mental health practices. Melanie’s counseling approach is narrative-based and relational, recognizing the powerful role that culture, identity, and social context play in emotional well-being. She specializes in perinatal mental health, caregiving transitions, and supporting clients navigating trauma, burnout, and life role shifts. In therapy, she honors each person’s story and works collaboratively to help clients reclaim agency, meaning, and empowerment in alignment with their values.
